Most advice teaches the wrong things
Most cybersecurity advice is written to sound smart, not to help you. It buries beginners in jargon, endless cert lists, and courses that do not move you any closer to a job.
I started Decoded Security because I kept seeing the same thing. Talented people, working hard, studying the wrong material. Not because they were not capable, but because nobody showed them what counts and what to ignore.
Most people do not fail cybersecurity interviews because they lack knowledge. They fail because they prepare for the wrong things.
So that is what I do here. I take the concepts that show up in real jobs, real interviews, and real exams, and I explain them like a human being.
I sit on the other side of the hiring table
I moved into cybersecurity from software development and became a Head of IT Security. I am CISSP certified. And I hire, interview, and mentor the people who are trying to break into this field.
That perspective is rare in this space, and it shapes everything I write. Most people teaching cybersecurity have never had to decide who gets the job. I have, many times.
I will not tell you cybersecurity is easy. But it becomes dramatically easier when you stop guessing and start thinking the way interviewers and security teams actually do.
You are in the right place if
- You are breaking into cybersecurity and drowning in courses, certs, and advice.
- You are preparing for a certification like Security+, CC, or CISSP.
- You are a software developer who does not want AI to decide your career for you.
- You are switching careers, or stuck in your current role, and need a clear next step.
Plain English, and a real plan
Plain-English breakdowns of the concepts you need. Certification and interview guidance from someone who runs these interviews. Hands-on labs and practical templates. And a growing community of 1,500+ people on the same path.
Decoded Security started as a free newsletter, and it still is. Everything begins there.
